SmartGrant was founded and created by MaryAnn Anderson, an arts-sector consultant with more than 20 years of experience as a grant writer for hundreds of artists and organizations. Through this work, she has developed a deep understanding of a wide range of funding programs, and built her own comprehensive Canadian arts & cultural grants database, which now powers SmartGrant.ca.
“As our sector navigates challenging financial times – reduced revenues and higher competition for available public funds – the need to find new funding sources has never been greater,” says Anderson.
“While arts grant and funding information is available online, finding and understanding these resources is often challenging – many artists and arts organizations lack the time, capacity, experience, and research skills to find the resources that could benefit them. The need for this information is enormous – yet with few available online resources, the needs of most Canadian artists and organizations often go unmet. We created SmartGrant to simplify grant research and planning and make it widely accessible and affordable.”
SmartGrant represents her vision to provide an affordable, centralized tool that empowers the arts, heritage and cultural sector throughout BC.
“Welcome to SmartGrant – we look forward to making your creative possible.”
