Program Summary:
The South Asian Music Prize presented by SiriusXM Dhamaka celebrates emerging South Asian music creators in Canada who are shaping the country’s diverse musical landscape. The Prize recognizes artistic excellence, elevates underrepresented voices, and supports meaningful career development through national recognition and industry access.
Grant Amount:
One recipient, selected by a jury of respected industry professionals, will receive a $10,000 cash prize, a national PR campaign, travel support to attend the award presentation, and ongoing support from SOCAN Foundation.
Eligible Applicants:
Criteria:
- The competition is open to music creators (including, but not limited to, songwriters, producers, composers, lyricists) of all genres who identify as South Asian. Submitted works, including lyrics where applicable, may be in any language.
- If the applicant is a collective or band, all members must meet the eligibility criteria.
- Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and SOCAN members
- Submissions must be original works composed within two (2) years of the application deadline.
- Applicants must submit musical examples in which they have meaningfully contributed to the creation of the work and hold a share of ownership in the submission.
